New: Calendar redesigned and a cleaner, distraction-free notes view

Hey there, two new updates bring Lognote one step closer to its goal of becoming the ultimate note-taking app, the only note-taking app you'll ever need, the only one... Okay 🥸, let's start...

What's new:

• V5.6.0
  • Calendar, redesigned (Lognote Pro): The calendar has been completely redesigned. Switch smoothly between week and month views, swipe through time, and see notes with their images, voice memos and files.
  • Sharing stays in context: Shared content now opens reliably over the group you last used. Review photos before saving, crop them when needed or remove them directly from the share flow.
• V6.7.0
  • Hide date & time: Hide dates, times and day sections to display all notes clearly and without distraction, just like in a standard notes app. Apply the setting globally or only to individual groups.
  • Bug fixes & improvements: We’ve refined writing and planning, improved multi-select so your selection stays in context, added archiving directly from the note menu (Lognote Pro), and fixed additional issues.

Calendar Redesign

When I came up with the idea for the 2024 calendar, I had a very specific vision in mind. In the top right corner is the calendar icon, and when you tap it, the calendar slides down with an animation, revealing the notes for the selected day below.

The idea isn’t bad, but it really takes up a lot of space. I didn’t see much added value in it, and since the app has changed significantly over the last few months, both technically and in terms of desig, it was time to rethink the calendar and bring the design up to date.

The new approach is this: By default, the calendar shows only the current week, and if you want the monthly view, you simply swipe down on the calendar to open it. This saves space and gives you the freedom to switch to the monthly view whenever you need it. Additionally, it’s no longer limited to just one day, the monthly view now displays the entire week in a timeline. And together with the new bubble view (if you have it enabled), it looks much cleaner and more organized, really aesthetically pleasing.

Hide date & time

What? Is displaying the date and time the app’s unique selling point? That’s true, but the analytics and my own use of the app have shown that the app is leaving a lot of potential untapped if it’s marketed solely as a log-keeping app. That’s why, over the past few months, I’ve expanded the app so that you can assign a specific purpose to each group. For example, when I’m writing my notes in a group, the Classic view works best, with the date and time on the left and the note on the right, but if I just want to jot down thoughts or save inspirational screenshots, the new Bubble view makes the most sense.

And that’s the crux of the matter: for meeting minutes, the date and time are important, but for regular notes, I couldn’t care less about the date and time, they’re actually more of a distraction.

For this reason, you can set whether to display the date and time either globally or individually for each group. If you don’t want them, you can finally hide them entirely and then everything will be displayed one after another without any distracting elements. You can still view the date and time via the note’s details, and they’re also included when you export the notes.
